Do you have a great idea for a preceptor development pearl? How about sharing the pearl with your fellow preceptors at the Eastern States Conference (ESC) this coming May? This is a great way to help meet preceptor criteria and can be added to your CV or Academic and Professional Record (APR).
The ESC is soliciting preceptor development pearls for our spring conference May 18-21, 2025. Preceptors will
present their 15 min presentation at the conference.
What is a pearl and how is it different from traditional educational sessions? The goal of each pearl presentation is to convey one idea, concept, or fact that has been useful in day-to-day practice, and may not be widely known, understood, published, or taught. Keep in mind that these presentations are not intended to be a review of literature. While it is expected that the information be grounded in fact (and may be derived from research), pearl presentations should be based on acumen and practice, not a review of papers. (From ASHP MidYear Meeting program guidelines) Alternatively, “Clinical pearls are best defined as small bits of free standing, clinically relevant information based on experience or observation.”
Abstracts submitted by the applicants should focus on a particular aspect of preceptor development. Ideas for possible topics include, but are not limited to: crucial conversations, precepting Generation Z learners, appropriate use of social media, imposter syndrome, providing constructive feedback, and boosting learner engagement.
